A CITY FULL OF GAME CHANGERS
Well it’s a mural and it has like, Lyman T. Johnson and people who made a difference in Louisville, and on the other side it has Muhammad Ali. It says, “On the road to life, challenge yourself.” Yeah, so I just thought it was cool … It just took figures of the world, game changers, and put them on a mural in our area of town. A lot of people really don’t even know who he [Lyman T. Johnson] is, and I just thought like, we should like educate ourselves more about our community leaders and people whose life made a difference, and actually in our city. It took my grandmother coming to my school and pointing to a picture of Lyman T. Johnson on the wall and asking me if I knew who he was. I didn’t, but then she told me. He was like, the first black man to go to UK. So I went to that school and I didn’t know that until my grandmother told me, she was like, “Oh yeah, that’s Lyman T. Johnson.” Yeah. You have to know your history. I feel like I do better when I know my ancestors come from, and it makes me want to try harder. I felt like my grandma tried and fought hard, I want to try harder to be the best I can be.
