HOW DARE YOU

So, this is right there in front of city hall and the mayor’s office and you know that little government complex area, the jail, the court, police station, all that stuff is right there, and I actually stood in the dirt where the flowers were, like I walked into someplace I wasn’t supposed to walk to take this picture cause I wanted to get the Jefferson county historical marker and Jefferson in the same picture. Our county is Jefferson County and Thomas Jefferson did some horrible things…horrible things to like, all sorts of brown people like, that was kinda like his legacy (laughter from her). His legacy was the trail of tears, and all sorts of laws like, ensuring that um, black people had no movement, like physical movement to different spaces, and you know, he was like a slaveholder and he had that weird relationship with one of his slaves, a teenager (sighs), and that’s the PROUD legacy of Jefferson County, and it’s just disgusting to me that he is standing there in front of everything, and we’re supposed to celebrate. We’re taught that colonialism and the colonists…they get positive frames, right? It’s a good thing that they came to America you know what I mean, let’s celebrate these white men who abused millions of human beings in a time when there weren’t even millions of human beings all at once (laughter). You know, it’s just this terrible legacy and we are lying to our children, we are lying to each other, we’re putting this man up, look at how high up he is! Like, you can’t like, those, those, those steps there are like half as tall as me, like he’s untouchable, he is on the pedestal. Celebrate Thomas Jefferson and Jefferson county cause he came here and made it great for all the White people you know. Fuck you! (Laughter) How dare you, how dare you make me feel like I need to celebrate you and all the poison that you have put into the lives of the people I care about. Like, no, how dare you! Jefferson County my ass (laughter). I’m not here for that shit, you know, and like, this is what I talk about when we need to completely change our system, like, I’m, I’m all about ok, let’s do what we can to change the system now and show folks, ok, this is messed up what we’re doing and what we’ve BEEN doing is messed up. We cannot say ok well let’s get voting rights for former felons while we’re still giving people felonies, you know what I mean?
